The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders – Appeared in eponymous TV movies in 1979 and 1980, as well as DCC:  Making The Team (2005, T).  TV turns include two appearances on “Love Boat” as well as “Harry and The Hendersons” and “Saturday Night Live,” as well as many others.  USO regulars;  have appeared over fifty times on tour, and have performed with fellow Collection member (and former Texas cheerleader) Jessica Simpson.  Data: Brought to national attention during Super Bowl X in 1976, the squad as we know it was created during the 1972 football season by Dee Brock and Cowboys GM Tex Schramm.  Troupes of ordinary students and/or models had long sufficed to provide cheerleading squads for most pro football teams, but exertion under the Dallas sun was proving too much for many girls there.  So Schramm and Brock, with the assistance of dance coach Texie Waterman, assembled a group of extraordinary women--certainly semi-pro athletes in their own right--with looks and poise, yet fit enough for hours of exertion in the sweltering Texas heat.  The result was so successful that all other pro football teams eventually copied the model.  A quintessentially American institution, and arguably the most popular performing troupe of all time.
